PRESS RLEASE (Oct 6, 2011)

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“IN TEXAS” -  A MODERN TEXAS ANTHEM

Written and performed by:  JB Clark

The newly released single tune, “In Texas ,” is now available for purchase at iTunes, Amazon.com (mp3), or CD Baby.  A video of this song can be previewed by clicking the following link VIDEO - In Texas.            This song, written and performed by JB Clark , of Grapevine, TX, is deeply sincere and honest.  Texans can identify with every word and recognize every line as they two-step across the floor.

“In Texas ” started as a jingle for a radio program by the same name, but was never launched.  The promoter of the program happened to own a winery, thus the lyric, “you can taste the wine.”  JB Clark, being a licensed airplane pilot, prompted the lyric, “you can touch the sky.”  The larger universities in Texas are also referred to: “We can hook ‘em” (University of Texas), “and gig ‘em (Texas A&M), “and wreck ‘em yet(Texas Tech), “You Bear in mind (Baylor University ).

This song also has a clever introductory verse inspired upon crossing the state line back into Texas after an extensive road trip, “It’s the wide eyed joy I always get when I’m finally coming home to Texas, and I see that welcome sign.”

JB Clark was born in Salem, OR in 1954 and raised in Southern California until the age of 11.  “My dad gave me my first guitar for my 14th birthday.  It was an arch-top jazz guitar.  I think it was a Silvertone with extremely high action.”  Except for the time I was in Vietnam, I’ve never been without a guitar since.  JB performed extensively while in the service from Duluth, MN, to Galena, AK, and Aviano, Italy.  JB has resided in Texas for the last 20 years.

JB Clark  was inspired and influenced by performers such as Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, John Denver, Bruce Springsteen, and Jimmy Buffett .  He performs primarily as a solo artist with excellent ability self-accompanied on guitar and harmonica.   His vocals are precise with a delivery that is personal and heart-felt.  His finger-picking guitar style is thorough and accurate with a full and supportive bottom end bass-line.  His repertoire consists mostly of tunes from the 60’s and 70’s in addition to original compositions.  JB has been performing at venues in the DFW area for several years.

This veteran performer also delivers an entertaining banter and light hearted yet meaningful rapport with his audiences.   As JB says, “Like many Baby-Boomers, I have been downsized, outsourced, divorced, uninsured, unemployed, Enron-ized, and pension-less.  But, I have always held up my end of the bargain, and always will.”  This commitment also applies to his music and the performances he delivers to his audiences.

“In Texas” was recorded at FreeSpirit Recording Studio in Dallas, TX.  Performances on Dobro Guitar and bass guitar were provided by Gerry Moss.  Performances on six string acoustic guitar were provided by JB Clark and Gerry Moss

JB Clark is available for interviews and appearances.

Article Text:
The letter from a dying friend came too late for its recipient to say farewell in person.
But he granted his friend's last request.
In the lyrics of Hurst folk-pop musician J B Clark, "I did just like you asked of me and went down to the pub for a gin."
Clark, 48, sings the song with "a bit of an accent -- some butchered version of the Queen's English," he says. "I always wait a couple of sets until the audience has had a few."
The song, Davey, is an original by the Salem, Oregon, native, who sings and plays guitar and harmonica Thursdays and Fridays in the lounge at The Classic Cafe at Southlake. His offerings include 1960s and 1970s tunes by Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, John Denver and Paul Simon, along with an occasional original composition.
"I've got a notebook full of lyrics, and one or two of [the songs] are singable," he says. "A lot are giving advice to myself while growing up or to get through sad times. I sneak in one [original] song at a time now and then."
Clark, a satellite-radio program manager for Hertz rental cars, began performing at The Classic Cafe in November. It had been years since he played, he said. His last gigs were in his spare time in clubs and restaurants while he was in the Air Force serving in Italy, Okinawa and Vietnam.
"For me, it's just a treat to not be a jukebox," although he says he doesn't mind doing cover tunes. "Now, I don't for the life of me know why I ever quit [performing].
"I can't quit the day job, and I don't want to sound corny, but I feel great -- like I'm doing what I ought to be doing."
